Scene at the shopping center
About a dozen police officers, from Daly City, Pacifica, San Bruno, and BART (possibly others as well) sharing a break at Starbucks.
But… Starbucks doesn't serve donuts! (Oh, well… this _is_ California after all… 🙂
In front of the newly re-opened mall
A 30-foot reindeer, made from red-painted sticks and twigs (garnished with small white twinkly lights). Quite well done actually. Can they store it after the holiday season or do they have to take it apart?
In today's SF Chronicle (the physical newspaper)
I noticed that there were two side-by-side articles, each with headline and photo, on the front page above the fold. It looks… strangely reminiscent of a web page.
We don't subscribe to the paper, so I don't know how long they have been using this new format. (I like it).
News from The Company that until recently employed me
My involuntary dismissal appears to have been a "shot across the bow". (Maybe they were practicing?). I heard last night that there have been "massive" layoffs – somewhere between 10% and 15% of the workforce. Ouch.
While it's good to know it wasn't "just something about me", I find this recent news scary to contemplate all the same. If I were a possible investor (or customer) I would ask some deep probing questions right about now.
I wish my ex-ex-co-workers well. One of those has already created an "ex" mailing list to keep in touch.
