Splendid Bowl

We don't really care about football. Amend that. We really don't care about football. Football ranks with things like, oh, marketing surveys for toothpaste and the gross national product of Elbonia.

So, when my sister mentioned in a letter that she had spent a day in a hotel room, on an out-of-town weekend trip to Chicago, watching a Steelers game, I thought "Okaaay". That's… a bit of an odd thing to do on an out-of-town weekend.". But, whatever floats your boat.

And when that same sister said she hoped her husband might find a Steelers shirt on his business trip to New Jersey … well, that just seemed like more of the same….

But then, friends started sending me football jokes. Specifically, Steelers jokes. And my mother, on the phone last week, said something incomprehensible about a towel(?!).

Light finally dawned at the grocery store this morning. I saw a sign on the door offering cocktail shrimp platters (82 shrimp for $13.99) "For Your Super Bowl Snacking" and I said "Ah. Aha!" I get it.

The Steelers must be playing in the Splendid Bowl!** And, for some reason, that's not in January this year!

Somebody will probably tell us if they win…

** Marcie, in the comic strip "Peanuts" always called this game the Splendid Bowl.
