When you have only two pennies left in the world,
buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other.
— Chinese Proverb
Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words.
These are my Treasures for the past week.
- Sign on a garage in Palo Alto: No parking except for wagons with horses
- Ground squirrels playing tag on the Stanford campus
- A glorious sunrise, wispy clouds highlighted from below in firey tangerine
- A grey squirrel at the feeder, nibbling corn
- Cheep chirp! Chirp cheep. There are 10 or 12 chickadees in the pine tree in front of the house. They hopped about and cheeped at me when I came in from the car.
- A Boulangier store in Mountain View, featuring a sign out front that is made to look a large (3-D) paper bag filled with loaves of bread.
- Baskin Robbins Apple Pie Ala Mode flavor-of-the-month for July. With pieces of pie crust and chunks of apple. Yum!
- Garden spiders (orb weavers). I wouldn't normally call spiders a treasure (shudder) especially BIG spiders… but these are very handsome (from 4 feet away :-), They're all tawny and tiger-striped. And large. They are large. But pretty. As long as they remain 4 feet away. 🙂
