We got up Monday morning and went down to Joes for breakfast, then to CitiBank (where I waited in line for 15 minutes and then took another 15 getting a bank check). Then over to Melody Toyota where Alex the salesman had put a big bow on our new car (awww) and a sales manager was there to shake our hands, shepherd us through (the last of the) paperwork, and repeat over and over how terribly sorry he was that things went awry the day before. (We were supposed to pick up the car on Sunday but things got snafued). Miss Manners would have been very proud. I drove away in our new Scion XB a little before 10.
Tuesday evening we drove the new car into the City for dinner at ChaChaCha with Perl people. Good food and good company but Noisy though through most of the time because there was a table of 20 in the same small back room and they were LOUD.
Late Wednesday afternoon my offer letter from the Company (finally) came through. I sat down with my manager and the company recruiter and we read through it. The salary isn't as good as I would like but hey, it's difficut to be choosy when you've been effectively unemployed for much of the past 2 and a half years. I accepted the offer. My pending official employment was announced at the Thursday company lunch. Friday was my last day as an hourly contractor.
If anything else of much interest happened last week, I don't remember it…
I finished Larceny and Old Lace, by Tamar Myers. This is the first book in the "Den of Antiquity" series. I don't like Abigail Timberlake (this series' protagonist) quite as well as Magdalena Yoder from Ms. Myers' Pennsylvania Dutch series. Abigail has a number of personal problems that seem to stem form an unfortunate lack of self-esteem (imho). Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and started the second in the series.
In between and around the rest, I've had several naps, good meals, interesting conversations with Spouse and friends, and snuggles with the cats. I didn't do a very good job at keeping my journal up to date this week unfortunately, and I missed a couple of days on my weblog. But I've managed to get some reading in… and a lot of cat hugging!
