Slightly Off KIlter

Normal is overrated

Weekly Wrap-up (Mon. Oct 11 – Sun Oct 17)

It was a warm week. Warm is nice but occasionally the weather bordered on hot, with ind, and I don't like that, especially in October. October is fire month in California.

On Monday, Rich joined me for lunch. We had a picnic in the little park about a block from the Job. Rich brought a sub sandwich and a couple of thermoses of cream of celery soup. It was a nice picnic (however, I had to beg some paper towels from a couple of mothers who were far better prepared for their picnic than I was for ours!).

Monday night, after dinner, we stopped by Baskin Robbins. Ooooooo. They had pumpkin pie ice cream! I bought a quart to take home.

I worked at home on Tuesday, more by accident than design. When I arrived at the Company the power was out. In fact, it was out for that entire office park and the shopping center at the corner.

As there wasn't much I could do without power, I first went to the Post Office (which opens at 8:30).
At the PO there were a bunch of people in line already and opening time still 4 minutes away so I thought, what the hey and went out to the car for my ATM card so I could try the fancy new package mailer kiosk. It's Neat! Nice interface, touch screen, nice big buttons. My package fit in the box (just) so I didn't even have to take it in and hand it to someone. I was done just as the doors opened.

Then back to the Company where I unplugged the PowerBook, took my coffee out of the fridge, and went home. I left a note that said I was going home to work where I had power (and screens, nice keyboard, and LIGHT). We got email later that said the power came back sometime around 12:30; the servers came up about 2:00. It was a good idea to go home; apparently they sent everyone in the building home at 9 am.

It hit 90 degrees on Wednesday! We took the Camry to the shop to have them re-check the (continuing and mysterious) oil leak in the engine. Then Rich dropped me off at the Job.

I took the bus home. The bus stop is less than a 5 minute walk from the Company; it takes 15 minutes to reach our neighborhood and then it's a walk over the hill to our house. On the walk home I saw a bunny. He was a nice brown cottontail bunny with shiny black eyes. I stopped to watch him (and catch my breath).

The Camry was still in the shop for most of Thursday. However, they called at about 2pm to say it was done, so I walked over. It was a 20 minute walk (which I made into 230 by trying a "shortcut" that wasn't. Then I put in another hour at The Job and drove home. No bus today.

Rain on Friday. LOTS of rain. I'm glad we have both cars again.

Saturday and Sunday were grey with on and off rain. Rich drove up to Forestville to visit friends on Sunday.

I finished Deathstalker, by Simon Green. I read most of Murder Can Kill Your Social Life by Selma Eichler. It started out OK but had a confusing and unsatisfactory ending (I thought). I also read Nightingale's Lament, by Simon Green (the third in an interesting noir fantasy series).

In between and around the rest, I've had several naps, good meals, and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends, a few chats with my dad, and snuggles with the cats.

Onward and Upward.
