Slightly Off KIlter

Normal is overrated

Surprisingly Tasty

They're frozen meals without the usual portion of starch — no potato, pasta, or rice. They're also surprisingly tasty and filling.

I recently discovered Life Choice Frozen Meals, a relatively new line from ConAgra Foods, one of North America's largest packaged food companies. ConAgra brands include Armour, Banquet, Brown 'N Serve, Butterball, Healthy Choice, Hebrew National, Hunt's, Libby's, Peter Pan, Reddi-wip, Swiss Miss, Wesson, and a whole lot more. They're obviously not new to the food business.

"Based on consumer needs, we've created a distinctive brand — not merely an extension of an existing brand with some ingredient changes or reduced portion sizes — to bring consumers the food they love to eat. The new Life Choice meals are devoted to meeting the needs of the carb-conscious consumer, without any compromises." (Robert Hopton, VP of marketing, ConAgra Foods Frozen Foods Group)

So far, I've tried both pizzas, the turkey with brussels sprouts (really; baby brussels sprouts), the pot roast, the salisbury steak (needs more gravy), and the Italian Sausage Scramble.
I like the flavor of the sauces and the amount of meat. I really liked the Italian Sausage Scramble. There was enough cheese, sauce, and sausage that the egg didn't taste like, well, dried up reheated frozen scrambled egg 😉

These are actually frozen meals I liked. I continue to be pleasantly surprised.

Read the label. They're not precisely low-cal. But they're real food in a convenient package without the metallic-tasting reheated frozen potatoes so many frozen meals include.

They're reasonably filling as well. However, if you want a bigger meal, pair one with a small side salad. Or, if you don't want to go quite so low carb, add a nice hard roll or a piece of crusty whole grain bread.

For my part, I'm finding that they make a simple, tasty, hot lunch on chilly days.
