Monday was a holiday so this was a short week. I like those 😉
I had a dentist appointment on Tuesday. uh oh. I have a little cavity; they're gonna drill it & fill it next week 😦 It's very small but they said it's better to fix now than wait & watch. Sigh.
We had dinner Tuesday night at Pasta Pomodoro; they were donating 10% of all sales on Tuesday to the Tsunami relief fund.
The traffic light at the corner was blinking red when I drove in to the Job on Wednesday. This usually indicates a power outage and it did this time. I went back home where there was light and power for the computer. I couldn't get into the company intranet till 3:00 pm (no VPN access) but I could work; I had downloaded the documents I needed the day before.
I upgraded Movable Type to the latest release and also installed the nofollow plugin. Thanks to MT-Blacklist, I don't get a lot of comment spam anymore but every little bit helps.
The Camry blew a headlamp so we picked up a new one on Saturday. At the suggestion of the guys at the parts counter, we "upgraded" to a supposedly 20% brighter bulb (replacing both low beams). It's certainly nice being able to replace simply the bulbs themselves and not the entire headlight assembly!
Saturday night we drove down to Mountain View to buy a used blue&white Mac G3. Rich wants a spare on hand; last week we thought we'd fratzed the motherboard in one box! Afterwards we stopped in at Fry's to wander around and see what we saw. Samsung has some nice flat-panel monitors that can swivel into portrait or landscape mode. We haven't seen anyone do that since Radius, many years ago. It's a great idea. It's also, sadly, a bit out of our price range right now.
This week I read The Dragon Guard, by Emily Drake. This is the third in the Magickers series, a pleasant magic kids series. If you like this sort of thing, try it. I also finished The Secret Agent, by Francine Matthews. This was well-written and I liked the protagonist but the second half of the book alternated chapters between the present and the period between 1945 and 1967. I was… less interested in the historical portion.
My parents have a new puppy (a 12-week-old lab/golden retriever mix). I'm hoping they'll send pictures! A netfriend has a new baby and she's been sending pictures. And a couple of Maine Coon breeders on my favorite mailing list have baby kittens – awwwwww.
In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've had a few chats with my Dad and exchanged email with my mom (Send more about the puppy!).
January is 3/4 over. My birthday is on the horizon.
