Slightly Off KIlter

Normal is overrated

Weekly Wrap-up 2005_08

The weather was variable. There were some sunny days, intermixed with a lot of rain! That's Spring in the Bay Area.

Monday was a Bank Holiday (as they say everywhere in the World but here). Hoorah! A three-day weekend followed by a four-day week. We went out to brunch; I took a nap. It rained (a nice background for a nap). We even had a little bit of thunder. What a lovely way to spend a Monday.

Tuesday was sunny and warm (as I said, that's Spring). In the late afternoon we drove down to the South bay for dinner with friends.

I installed a new launcher for my Kyocera (PalmOS-based PDA phone). It's called Silver Screen and it's very snazzy. It's even better with the "OS X Mania" theme 🙂

Wednesday was (guess!)….
grey and cloudy. Oh well. Unfortunately, I had a stomach upset for much of the day. Perhaps dinner hadn't agreed with me? in any case, not much got accomplished on Wednesday.

Amazingly, for a 4-day week, this one seemed to drag out. I was very happy to see Friday roll around. I was even happier to see Friday evening.

One very nice thing happened on Friday; I finally got the memory upgrade for my Company PowerBook. ( I've been waiting for since August. sigh). The PowerBook is much sprightlier now.

The hot tub heater element went out a week ago and we finally got a new one on Saturday afternoon. Actually, Rich had mail-ordered one and when it hadn't arrived by Saturday morning he drove down to a spa supply place half an hour from here and bought one. Due to a small oops re-setting the timer, the tub didn't reach optimum temperature until after midnight Saturday but it did get hot at last and we had a good soak before bed.

Hot tubs are medicinal, you know. They soak out stress and kinks and make it easier to sleep. It's really amazing how much I miss ours when we don't have it.

Oh yes. It rained again on Sunday 🙂

This week I read The Dog Who Knew Too Much, by Carol Lea Benjamin and Trading in Danger by Elizabeth Moon (good Thud and Blunder space opera). I also finished The Well of Lost Plots, the third Thursday Next novel by Jasper Fforde. I had been reading the latter slowly, a bit at a time. As with the two previous books, it is wonderfully surreal and delightfully odd. I love the review comment on the front cover: "Don't ask, just read it".

In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. A three-day weekend helps. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I've had a few chats with my Dad and exchanged email with my mom.

Onward and Upward.
