This week started off with a bang (several bangs in fact). We get a lot of neighborhood fireworks on the 4th and we can see them very well from our living room windows. I don't know how many were the most expensive "Safe and Sane" variety and how many came up from Mexico, Guatemala, or the Philippines, but it was a good show. There were lots of colored sparkles in the air as well as lots of booms and ratatattats.
The kitties were not happy. Bebop hunkered down in the guest room. Everyone tried to pretend to be blase'.
I read until 11. The fireworks must have gone on until after midnight; I could hear them long after I turned out the lights.
Tuesday was very foggy. In fact, much of the rest of the week was foggy, at least in the mornings and evenings.
Twice last week I saw what looked like a a re-furbed or rebuilt model-T (?) Ford. The first one was in a parking lot; it was definitely a Ford and in the style, but with modern tires and appurtenances and a "regular" license plate. The other was on the street. I'm pretty sure that was a different car.
Either someone is making "new" old-fashioned cars or taking old bodies and putting them over a modern chassis and engine. Either way I want one!
Friday night Squirrel and I watched a wood rat at the feeder. That was a lot of fun!
I'm afraid Rich missed it; he was out of town from Friday morning through Sunday evening, helping some friends finish moving out of where they've been living. He got home in time for a shower, dinner, and a nice soak in the hot tub.
This week I read The Winter Garden Mystery, the second Daisy Dalrymple book by Carola Dunn and Better Read Than Dead, the second Abby Cooper "Psychic Eye" mystery by Victoria Laurie. I also read two fluffy but fun fantasies by Mary Janice Davidson. Derik's Bane features a werewolf and the reincarnation of sorceress Morgan Le Fay. Hello, Gorgeous is a new twist on the Bionic Woman (and the 6 Million Dollar Man 🙂
All good fun.
Sunday (the 10th) was the 1-year anniversary of the day we test drove a Scion XB at our local Toyota dealership. I haven't had a moment of regret in the past year. I love that car!
In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals and interesting conversations with Spouse and friends. I had a chat with my Dad (who was wondering about one of those dumb virus emails that claims that "your account" needs to be updated; feh!). My Mom is still working (up at dawn, to bed by 9).
Onward and Upward.
