Normal is overrated

Treasures 2005_29

Some memories are realities, and are better than anything that can ever happen to one again.

— Willa Cather

Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words.
These are my Treasures for the past week.

  • Toasted bagels with lox and cream cheese, tomatoes and red onion

  • A handsome car from the 40's(?), in great condition, painted red. Gorgeous.

  • Sights seen along the roadside on a day trip: rolling hills, lots of cows, a baby colt with his mama, a baby calf with his mama, sheep, goats, vultures, sunflowers, oleander, bougainvillea, vineyards, apple trees, towering redwoods, a hawk or two, and a pair of dark brown llamas.

  • Attending the Leopards Etc. Open House and meeting all the wonderful cats. Mara the Caracal vocalizing (hissing :-). What big teeth you have my dear! Chimane, the ocelot, growling. Such a big growl for such a little cat (and what big eyes you have!). Falling in love with Oksana (a Siberian lynx) as she chuffed, rubbed her head on the fencing, and stuck her big paws under the edge of her enclosure (Don't touch! But soooo tempted!). Making friends with one of the Canada lynx (carefully, slowly). Having a nice conversation (with meaningful eye contact and purring, on his part) with Kamau, one of the male cheetahs. Watching Chhinsu, the snow leopard, paws twitching, chasing dream rabbits in her sleep.

  • A 1935 Terraplane automobile, well preserved and very handsome.

  • Felis catus (aka Felis domesticus). Hugging. holding, and simply touching our feline furkids. I was happy to admire the wild cats but it's so much nicer to touch.

God made the cat that man might have the pleasure of caressing the tiger.

    – Ferdinand Mery.

    (or the lynx…. – V.)

  • Dragonflies

  • Lying in bed, covered in cats.

  • A white Pontiac Firebird with a handsome (large) red dragon decal on the side.
