The weather has been quite warm this past week, even to say Hot on Saturday!. Ugh. I had to open lots of windows and turn on all of the fans.
We ordered a solar-powered (water recycling) birdbath. The good news is that we can put it anywhere in the yard with no cords or cables to worry about. The bad news is it's kind of flimsy. Sigh. At least it wasn't particularly expensive.
Do you have a cell phone? (Doesn't everybody?). Do you have your name and land-line phone number on that cell phone? If not, stop reading and go make a label to attach to your phone! While you're at it, make labels for your handheld computer, your laptop, and any other gadget you might possibly lose and want to get back!
On Tuesday night, on our way to diner, Rich found a cell phone in the parking lot. Uh oh.
The phone wasn't locked so I used it to call 611 and report it lost (and found). I gave Cingular my cell phone number and we went on to the restaurant.
Before we could order, the found phone rang. Oops. It was Cingular calling the owner (now I knew the owner's name). Either Cingular called the wrong number or the owner was forwarding her home calls to her cell. After some confusion I figured out I was talking to Cingular CS and the Cingular rep figured out she was talking to me (again) and we rang off. Then I worked through the menus on the phone and turned off the ringer. Sigh.
After dinner, when we got home, I discovered the found cell phone was NOT in my jacket pocket anymore. That caused a rush of heart-pounding adrenaline. I felt responsible for this phone. I didn't want to think I'd re-lost it! I called the restaurant and thank the gods they found the phone where we had been sitting. I asked them to keep it at the front desk and gave them the owner's name. That made for a weird conversation.
When will you be picking it up?
Um, I won't. The owner will.
Will that be tonight or tomorrow?
Well, see, I don't know. I can't reach her. It's not my phone…
I called Cingular again and told them the phone was at the restaurant (which is more likely to be near wherever the owner lives, given that's where the phone was lost). Then I called the lost+found phone and left a message to tell the owner that I turned off the ringer.
The last thing I did was to re-do the label on the back of my Kyocera (handheld/cell phone). I realized that it had my cell phone number on it (for my convenience) but that, if I ever lost it, it should have my home phone number written on it as well, in an easy to find place!
This week I read Damsel in Distress, the fifth Daisy Dalrymple mystery by Carola Dunn. Have you tried these yet? They're delightful.
In between and around the rest, I've had almost enough naps and plenty of snuggles with the cats. There have been good meals, interesting conversations with Spouse and friends, and one chat with my Dad.
Onward and Upward.
