Normal is overrated

Treasures 2005_32

Every year of my life I grow more convinced that it is wisest and best to fix our attention on the beautiful and the good, and dwell as little as possible on the evil and the false.

— Richard Cecil

Treasures are positive things that strike my fancy, that make me feel happy or thankful or interested. Treasures are memories encapsulated in just a few words.
These are my Treasures for the past week.

  • A woodrat at the feeder (at 2:00 in the afternoon!).

  • Mezzaluna's reaction to the woodrat when we put her on the windowsill. Ooooooh. Tail swishing.

  • Brightly painted San Francisco Victorians – turrets, fishscale siding, trim in contrasting colors, occasionally even a little gold paint

  • A handmade enamel-painted metal whirligig with multiple tiers, spinning in the wind

  • A bush covered in big purple flowers.

  • A tree squirrel at the feeder this morning, plucking and eating corn kernels one by one. Our Squirrel watching from the window, Raven watching from the screen porch.

  • The Fearsome Jungle Tiger: Bebop, wooslich, madly batting, pouncing, and killing a paperball

  • A profusion of Naked Lady lilies on a San Francisco hillside

  • Bebop curled next to Rich's sheepskin slipper – is that two slippers I spy?

  • Making Meaningful Eye Contact with a kitty; blowing kitty kisses in long slow blinks.

  • Dark turkey with mayo and cranberry sauce on fresh sourdough bread.
