Guns don’t Kill People?

A commenter on a friend's post claims "[Guns] are nothing more than tools to complete tasks. The problem is irresponsible people who feel as though utilizing a gun to solve their problems is the ONLY solution. If you don't want a gun, don't buy one but, don't eliminate my right to obtain and maintain one to protect myself and my property."

Unfortunately,

a) that "tool" was specifically created, designed, and improved to be a tool for mass slaughter. It has one purpose: Death.
b) the best way to eliminate the ability for the irresponsible people to have access to weapons is to constrain the ability of the so-called responsible people who want, wait, why do you want a gun, again?
"to protect myself and my property."

Against what? The Zombie invasion? The Aliens? That sounds a lot like those "irresponsible people who feel as though utilizing a gun to solve their problems is the ONLY solution".

But you want to retain your alleged right to "obtain and maintain" a weapon. You shouldn't mind a few constraints, right?
Those who favor guns in the home (shudder) tell us that cars kill people too (although cars were not created as a murder tool).

But let's look at cars for a minute. How about if we apply the rules we have for cars to guns:
  • education is required
  • testing is required
  • licensing is required
  • registration is required
  • insurance is required
  • insurance is higher for high risk groups (younger drivers, faster cars)
  • certain legal problems (e.g. DUI) get your license pulled
  • certain medical problems get your license removed
  • you need to get a new license every few years
  • you need to get a new registration every year
  • accidents and tickets raise your insurance rates
  • there's a tax on fuel (tax ammo)
  • certain types of vehicles require a special license
  • certain kinds of vehicles are not permitted to civilians

Don't make guns illegal. Follow the Second Amendment strictly to the letter.
You want weapons?
Regulate them.
