Guitar Recital

We went to a set of guitar recitals last night.

The first guitarist was technically competent and the piece was complex. At least, we think so; it certainly had a lot of notes. It wasn't melodic, so we can only assume the notes he played were the ones he was supposed to be playing.

The second guitarist included a tenor friend with great vocal range and projection. But, shouldn't the singer have been accompanying the guitar, rather than the other way around? (Think of the guitar as you listen to the singer.) Unfortunately, both songs were in English with lyrics rather dreary and depressing (The first started with "I dwell in darkness" and went downhill from there. The best line in the second was the amazing, "crushing love with tempestuous velocity", repeated three times.)

After the second guitarist finished, Rich turned to me and whispered, "I'm sorry".

We left before intermission.
