Our house came with an "alcove", a chimney, and small wood stove. The "alcove" is the wrong shape for a true fireplace.
Inspection showed that the wood stove is not in good shape and neither is the chimney, quote: "There was a chimney fire at one time; you should get the tiles and pipe replaced". So, we had a choice of going for wood or gas; we chose gas.
We ordered a gas stove back in June. It was supposed to come in in 6 weeks.
We also set up an appointment with a chimney guy who would fix the chimney and plumb a new gas line from the meter (garage) to the alcove (living room), and take away the old stove, and put in the new stove.
6 weeks went by, 8 weeks went by, we postponed the chimney guy…
On Nov 18, we were notified that the stove had come in (Chimney guy was Cc:d on that). We wrote back to say "Great! The chimney guy is coming on the 28th. Will he pick up the stove or do we need to come get it before then?"
No response.
We confirmed today that Chimney guy is, in fact, coming tomorrow. And that he has not picked up the stove, because…
We also discovered that the fireplace store (where the stove is), is closed for this TG weekend. Fireplace store did not tell us "Oh, we'll be closed on the 28th", did not tell Chimney guy either.
So, Chimney guy will come tomorrow and do everything we postponed back in August because the stove was late and "why not wait till the stove comes in".
I hear the Univeral Laugh Track playing.
Sigh.
