So, now we have a trailer* and a boat** and Rich got his motorcycle back a week ago (it was being stored by the man who shipped it up from San Bruno, but he's moving at the end of the month.)
We have WA drivers license numbers (we applied for the licenses a week ago and they are coming soon, but we have the temporaries with the valid numbers on them).
So, today we went down to the Dept of Licensing office to register vehicles.
In WA, drivers' licenses and registration are handled in separate offices. Conveniently, there is a DOL for registration in Silverdale. Yeay.
Registering the Scion, the Camry, and the motorcycle: simple. Registering the trailer: not so much.
We have a hand-written "bill of sale" and a photocopy of the title. We went home and called the woman we got the papers from. She gave the original title to her neighbor when he bought the trailer from her and he's lost it. So, now, she gets to contact the Arizona DMV to get a new official title so we can get that signed over to us. (The alternative is to file an "Ownership in Doubt" form which involves having the State Police do an inspection and check to be sure a vehicle isn't listed as stolen, then we could register the trailer but it would take three years to get a title document.) We're going with "former owner contacts state in which trailer was purchased".)
So, we're not supposed to have the trailer on the road until it can be registered. But we have new plates on the cars and the bike and applications for "specialty" (aka vanity) plates going into the mail tomorrow along with yet another check. We'll have no trouble getting the plates we want; they're all available.
WA offers all kinds of specialty plates, but apparently, most people in WA don't get them (as opposed to CA where about 1 in every 4-6 cars has a personalized plate) We've only seen five or six personalized plates in the 3.5 months we've been up here.
