When we left Rich and Vicki, they had signed all of the relevant papers, but were still waiting to close escrow. (previous post)
We spent the weekend "rehearsing". We practiced how we would load the cats into the crates and the crates into the car. We planned how to load the roof bags. we packed up another (erm) bags of foodstuffs (fridge, freezer, pantry) that we would not be carrying with us and took it over to our friend. I think this was the fourth "last load".
On Monday, Nov 9, Cunningham Moving and Storage came and loaded everything we weren't going to transport in our cars. They did not take two days; they did not take all day. They took 5 hours, from arrival to gone.
We then took several deep breaths and went for a last walk on our favorite trail. As we were on the return leg of the walk, we got a phone call; we'd closed escrow.
On Nov 10, we packed two cars (including 5 cats in two pet crates; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0722KW6YJ/) and headed north a little after noon.
We stopped briefly in Red Bluff, CA to meet up with a friend I met through Facebook. I brought her some German bread from a store near San Jose. She gave me some lovely hand-crocheted pot holders. I got a chance to thump her wonderful large dog and pet his soft head…
Then we got back on the road.
